1962 – Tickle Bridge

1962 – Tickle Bridge

Among the Notre Dame Isles, a series of causeways was built in 1962, running north, and forming the Road to the Isles. From the first community in the south, Lewisporte, through to the Twillingate islands, the Road to the Isles runs for about eighty-five kilometres. The first causeway, over Reach Run connects Chapel Island to Boyd’s Cove on the main island. From ther travellers pass over the Curtis Causeway traversing Dildo Run and Northem Tickle. It is named for lawyer/politician Hon. Leslie Roy Curtis (1895-1980), a Twillingate native, and Liberal member for Twillingate District when the causeway network was built. The Curtis Causeway takes travellers as far north as New World Island.
